 The Xth International Symposium on Mycotoxins and Phycotoxins will surely be an excellent opportunity for in-depth discussion and exchange of current knowledge and experience among individuals from research institutes, universities, national and international agencies and industry, who are working in this important field. It will consist of keynote and plenary lectures,contributed papers, roundtable discussions and posters. The Symposium will be hosted by the Instituto Adolfo Lutz, founded in 1940 as a result of the merger of the Bacteriological and Chemical Analysis Laboratories. It was created to render laboratory services and carry out research in the public health sector. We will gather at a pleasant setting, the city of Guarujá, known as the "Pearl of the Atlantic", only 70 Kilometers from the capital of São Paulo. I would like to welcome all of you and I hope that you will enjoy the scientific program which reflects a broad spectrum of disciplines, covering methods of analysis and sampling, toxicity, chemistry, biochemistry, biomonitoring, prevention, risk assessment, mycology and occurence in foods, feeds and biological fluids.
